Today, my guest is Professor Stephen L. Carter, the William Nelson Cromwell Professor of Law at Yale, where he has taught for almost thirty years.

A graduate of Stanford University and Yale Law School, where he was a Notes Editor of the Yale Law Journal, he then served as a law clerk for Judge Spottswood W. Robinson III on the DC Circuit, and then to Justice Thurgood Marshall of the US Supreme Court.  Professor Carter was one of my favorite authors even before going to law school so it was a thrill to talk to him about his acclaimed nonfiction books and best selling novels.
