Ed Reines, Partner at Jones Day

Today, my guest is Ed Reines, a Partner at Jones Day who has successfully represented clients in high-stakes disputes for decades. His recent achievements before joining Jones Day in 2025 include overturning a $96 million verdict in a patent case involving genetic technologies, winning a $45 million verdict in a Lanham Act false advertising lawsuit regarding diagnostic tests, a $24 million verdict in a case related to prenatal genetic testing methods with a defense verdict on a $105 million contract claim, scoring a judgment of more than $50 million in a case involving microfluidic technologies, and a complete summary judgment in a sprawling multidistrict patent litigation.

Ed is past president of the Federal Circuit Bar Association; past president of the Federal Bar Association’s Northern District of California Chapter, where he chaired the N.D. Cal Patent Rules Committee for years and helped pioneer the patent rules used around the country. He also teaches patent litigation at UC Berkeley Law School. Ed is dedicated to supporting disabled veterans rights, and he recently joined the board of directors of Grateful Guitars, a nonprofit that donates guitars — modeled on those used by legendary jam band musicians — to up-and-coming and struggling musicians.
