Kurt Calia, Partner at Covington
Today, my guest is Kurt Calia, a Partner at Covington who helps life sciences and technology clients resolve their most important intellectual property and complex litigation disputes. For more than two decades, Kurt has led trial teams, representing plaintiffs and defendants, in courts throughout the country, including the Court of Federal Claims and the International Trade Commission. He has significant appellate experience in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, the 2nd, 6th, 8th, and 9th Circuits and the U.S. Supreme Court.
Kurt specializes in translating complex technology and legal theories into effective advocacy across an unusually broad range of technologies—from pharmaceutical chemistry to semiconductors. In addition to his trial work, Kurt serves as a Managing Partner for Legal Personnel and Hiring Partner for the firm’s Palo Alto office, and on the firm’s Associate Advisory Committee. Kurt maintains an active pro bono practice, frequently writes and speaks on intellectual property issues, and has taught courses on intellectual property at Stanford Law School, Berkeley Law School, and Howard University Law School.
