Allen Lo, VP and Deputy GC at Meta (Facebook)

Today, my guest is Allen Lo, VP and Deputy General Counsel at Meta (Facebook) who joined Facebook (now Meta Platforms) in 2017 where he leads the IP team of over 400 professionals that provide legal counsel to Meta’s global products (Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger), legal support for Reality Labs (Oculus Quest, Metaverse, Portal), and operational support for the entire legal department.

Prior to joining Meta, Allen was Deputy GC at Google where he, among other things, led the 125-person team that oversaw the litigations, licensing, and portfolio which included integration of Motorola’s patents through a $12.5B acquisition. Allen grew up in a family of engineers, mastered video games as a child, learned to code as a teenager, and majored in electrical engineering with a specialty in computers in college. After law school, Allen worked at one of the top IP law firms in DC and relocated to Silicon Valley to help open the firm’s Palo Alto office in 1997. Allen holds a BS from Ohio State University and a JD from Georgetown Law School.
